Dimitri Tchelistcheff, our long-time consultant, had a special feeling for Tempranillo and suggested planting one acre, making this a very limited production wine.  The name Tempranillo comes form the Spanish, "temprano" which means "early", and Tempranillo true to its name is always our first red grape to ripen.

Merlot is a varietal that does very well on the gentle, sloping vineyards of Jarvis Estate, producing a highly anticipated wine. Our 100% Merlot is so desired, it is often our first wine to sell out each vintage.

In 1993, one dark night during fermentation pumpovers William Jarvis accidentally pumped a third of a tank of Cabernet Franc into a tank of Cabernet Sauvignon. Both he and our winemaker consultant Dimitri Tchelistcheff were distraught until the fermentation was complete and Dimitri declared the wine “not that bad”.

Year after year we are impressed with the Chardonnay from Finch Hollow. It is barrel fermented in new French oak and sur-lie aged with weekly stirring. The result is a wine with colors of golden hay fields on a beautiful sunny day.

Cabernet Franc has long been the favorite grape varietal of William Jarvis. He believes that it grows exceptionally well in the Napa Valley and is particularly suited to the Jarvis cool climate vineyards.
